There are several smartphone commercials where you see a clip of phone users tapping away on their mobile devices while skydiving. If you’ve seen one of these ads, you’ve probably said to yourself “well that wouldn’t happen in the real world”. Think again.

Molly Wood of CNet’s Always On decided that skydiving phone usage would be a good thing to test in-the-wild. Why not, right?

The goal of the test was to see which device was able to take the best photo while soaring out of a helicopter towards earth. Molly took the HTC One and her colleague took the iPhone 4S as they took the leap. Ironically, her colleague Jeff using the iPhone 4S was not only able to take a photo, but uploaded to Instagram and saw the “Likes” roll in as he coasted down. Check out the footage below:
