The Magic 8 Ball Trumps Apple’s Siri in an In-The-Wild Test

Who are you better off asking questions to: Siri or a Magic 8 Ball?

One would hope that Siri, Apple’s widely used virtual assistant app, would be the better choice than the low-tech childhood toy, the Magic 8 Ball. However, a recent article in HLN by Johnathan Anker says you are more likely to have your questions answered accurately with a Magic 8 Ball.

Anker performed an in-the-wild test in which he asked Siri and the Magic 8 Ball each the same ten ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions. Here’s what he found:

“Low-tech beats high-tech! Childhood tchotchke stuns futuristic phone! Depending on whether you believe unicorns are real, the Magic 8 Ball either answered 9 out of 10 or 8 out of 10 questions correctly.

However Siri — again, depending on your personal, deeply-held unicorn feelings – only successfully answered or helped to resolve 3 or 4 of the 10 questions.”

Essentially, Siri squanders one out of three searches. No matter how fancy and advanced a technology is, you don’t truly know if it will succeed in the hands of your customers without in-the-wild testing.

And I actually do have a couple of questions for you
if you don’t mind. Is it just me or does it seem like a few of these responses come across like they are coming from brain dead individuals? :-P And, if you are posting at additional online social sites, I’d like to keep up with
anything new you have to post. Could you make a list of the complete urls
of all your community pages like your twitter feed, Facebook page
    or linkedin profile?

It’s truly very difficult in this busy life to listen news on TV, so I just use world wide web for that reason, and get the hottest news.
